Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters B+

So the other day I  saw Hansel & Gretel and I must say I really enjoyed the new take on this old story. We start out with the traditional tale of Hansel & Gretel being left in the woods by their father. the children then wonder off into the woods and find a house made out of candy. They bang on the door to seek help only to encounter a ugly old witch that wanted them to stay for dinner.

I liked the movie because we get a grow up version of the tale, with more guts and gore, so if your not into exploding witches this isn't for you. Gretel portrayed Gemma Arterton gives a great performance as a kick ass witch hunter who due to their past run in with the witch in the forest has no love for those that practice the dark arts. Even though she dislikes witches she always wants proof before the sentence them to fire. Along with her brother portrayed by Jeremy Renner who also plays Hawkeye from the Avenger they come to a town where children are going missing and they have to save the day.

The movie has it's funny moments and of course there has to be a twist to the story in someway. I will leave you to find that you when you see the movie. The makeup on each of the witches is excellent and the actresses that played the witches did really being out their nasty to portray these evil hags. The fight senses are not what you expect because who knew witches knew Kung Fu...The weapons they use in the story are amazing I must say that I really do want Gretel's automatic crossbow.

So all in all I have Hansel & Gretel a B+. I did like it but I was looking for a little more action. If you like the retelling of Red Riding Hood then you will like this also.

There are a lot of actors that have died far too young. They left an empty space that sometimes can never be filled by anyone new that comes a long. Being a old as I am I've read about the deaths of many a young actors that I really liked. River Phoenix, Jonathan Brandis, and most recently Brittany Murphy. The other night while trying to find something on that deplorable contraption called the cable box, I came a cross movie that I totally brushed off many a time as something not worth watching. That night I decided what the hell why not give it a chance. So I put my kid to bed and settled in to watch The Ramen Girl.

The Ramen Girl is one of Brittney Murphy's movies and I have to say besides her role in Clueless the character she played in the Ramen Girl is one I really liked. Abby moves to Japan to be with her boyfriend who soon then abandons her. Abby believes that he will return and stays in Japan, but we all know that he isn't coming back. Abby befriends some other foreigner and establish a relationship with them, but the meat of the movie isAbby journey into self confidence and into the realization that she is a complete wreck.

She ends up at a ramen shop, where she meets Maezumi the owner of the ramen shop. Abby begs Maezumi to teach her how to make ramen, but he refuses at first, but her persistence pays off and he becomes her mentor. Maezumi changes Abby's life and she also in turn changes his. Abby learns to let go of herself and become a whole person, while Maezumi learns that he needs to forgive and let things go.

I must say I really liked this movie. It showed you the ups and downs of human life and what can be done when you work hard enough and reach from something that makes your life whole again. I believe this is one of the best movies I've seen Brittany Murphy in. Sure you can still hear her voice on old episodes of King of The Hill , but I believe she had more in her. The Ramen Girl provide that she could have done more.

All in all I give The Ramen Girl 3 1/2 Stars out of 5. If  you haven't seen it you should or if your not a big movie person see if there is a book.

So the other day I decided to explore all the shows on Netflixs and found a bunch of shows that I really liked. But sadly almost all of them have been canceled which is a crime because they were really good and totally interesting.

1.) The first show I want to complain about is TORCHWOOD! First of all if you haven't seen this show you need to see it you will fall in love be you man or woman with Captain Jack Harkness and his team right away. So anyway after about 4 seasons Torchwood was placed on the back burner. If you don't know anything about Torchwood here is some short insight. Torchwood first made its appearance in Doctor Who as did Captain Jack. So everyone one loved Captain Jack and Torchwood became a spin off. I've watched all of seasons 1,2 ,3 and 4 (which you would have to stay up really late and find it on Showtime). Sadly I believe Torchwood got pushed to the side because the writer who writes the series also wrote the Doctor Who series so who knows if is ever coming back. I really hope it does because season 4 ended on a cliffhanger which I really hate when they cancel shows and leave you guessing.

2.) The Dresden Files now there was a good show. If you want to see what Harry Potter would have grown up to be if there was no Hogwarts and all that stuff and he was just a kid with magic. Dresden is centered around a wizard who goes around solving crimes and putting evil in it's place. Sadly Dresden only had 12 episodes before it was canceled which is a total crime, because the series would have done wonderfully I believe if given an actual chance. Happily Paul Blackthorne who played Dresden can now be seen on Arrow on the WB as Detective Quentin Lance.

3.) Moonlight was awesome it was an up to date version of Forever Knight. Detective Mick St. John is a vampire that was turned 50 years ago and he goes around helping people in need with his vampire abilities. Mick falls for a human woman and eventually she finds out what he is an accepts him. Yes it totally sounds like Forever Knight. Sadly this series only had 1 season which totally sucks. Alex O' Loughlin is by far one of the sexiest vampires to ever grace the TV screen. (Yes I know that currently Ian Somerhadler holds the title). But I wish someone would pick it back up. Alex has since moved on to playing a detective on the new Hawaii Five-O.

4.) So yeah it was a totally shocker when the Secret Circle got canceled. So I am guessing low ratings but for the most I really did enjoy the series and thought that it was actually going somewhere, but I guess the programmers at the WB saw it going in the trash...BOOOOO.

5.) Last but not lease the biggest cancellation that pissed me off was HEROES. That show was so damn good and they just up and canceled it without ending it properly. I know for a fact that Heroes was good and the story behind some of the characters got you attached to them and their stories. You wanted to know where they were going in the series and how things would turn out for them. I know I wanted to see if any of my favorite characters died and who they would save. But that's TV politics for you I believe it was the darn writers strike that killed this series a long with the programmers.

It's been  almost two months since Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 came out and already we long to have some more Bella and Edward action in our lives. Well tough cookies! The books are done; the movies are over and you think to yourself "now what?" Well don't fear my fellow Twihards. If you are a true Stephanie Meyer fan than you know what's coming. In month plus "The Host" another bestseller from the author that got us addicted to sparkly vampire is scheduled to be in theaters  Like many of my fellow Twilight loving fans we might say there's no Edward in it....Sorry loves not everything can be about our favorite vampire.

If you haven't already read it and I am sure that you will after reading this. You will be happy to know like The Twilight Saga there is a love triangle in this book/film. Sure the girls that both the guys love in the book inhabit the same body, but that's all a part of the fun. Unlike Twilight this book is more of a OMG the earth got taken over by aliens kind of book but you will love it.

Deception, fighting for survival, and love it makes for awesome story telling. The Host is sure to be a hit and I can't wait to see it. So start counting down from now and if you're really hard up for some Bella/Edward stuff you can just imagine their faces on the other actors, but why would you. The roles of both the male leads are played by hot as ever Jake Abel (Ian O'Shea) and Max Irons (Jared Howe). You might remember Jake Abel from Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lighting Thief. And Max was in Red Riding Hood. The lady of interest is portrayed by Saoire Ronan. You might remember her from Hanna, Atonement, The Lovely Bones. She is no new comer and get is a great actress. I first saw her in the City of Ember and thought she was awesome.

Well go and get it book and prepare yourself for the movie.

It's been a while since I've posted anything and I would like to say to everyone Merry belated Christmas and Happy New Year. A lot happened last year I started my blog and gained a new sense of fellowship with others out there that are in the blogging universe. I gained an audience for the things I write and I found out how much I like writing about stuff to entertain and inform people.

I hope to write many more articles this year and attend some great trade shows, movies, and also read a couple more books to tell you about. As far as the books, I got myself Kindle Fire HD and I've been hooked on everything that is Rick Riordan. I've read all of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians and I've recently finished Hero's of Olympians: Mark of Athena. These are great series since I am into Greek mythology and I grow attached the the character of Percy Jackson so it's great that he is still around. It's so painful when you get hooked on a series to have to wait for months until the next book is out. Honestly Fall seems so far away when the last book you read finishes on a total cliffhanger.

Also I will probably be blogging about some free apps that I've recently download. I am totally into the whole zombie thing so a lot of the apps that I've downloaded are first person shooter games. Yes I am a girl and I like shooting zombies in the head.  You versus a couple flesh eating zombies. So far awesome but totally buggie..I've downloaded Zombiewood and Contract Killer and they are fun games but they are also money pits; don't fall in.

Anyway my latest books The Adventures of Marco and Carla: The Ghost of Black Crow Bridge and What Happened to Kerbie Walobee? will be out sometime in late February or March. They were suppose to out at the end of this month but due to technical writer issues (WRITERS BLOCK LIKE A YOU KNOW) they have been pushed back until those issues are totally worked out.

Well once again welcome to the New Year and I hope that you keep coming back :) Thanks
